STEM Club - Paper Chains
Lesson: Science
STEM club
Autumn 2 week 5
The challenge: PAPER CHAIN CHALLENGE
The engineering behind it:
Many STEM projects use critical thinking skills as well as math, and engineering skills and this one is no exception. There can be multiple ways of designing and making but some may produce the result you are after and others may not. Attention to detail is a must and pre-planning is encouraged!
Materials:
One Piece of Construction Paper
Scissors
Tape, glue or Prit-stick
Challenge:
Using a single piece of paper, make the longest chain
possible in the given amount of time.
Instructions:
Using only the materials provided, work by yourself or with the help of an adult to make the longest paper chain you can in the time given.
You can only use one sheet of paper, so plan your paper chain carefully.
You have 20 minutes to complete the chain.
When your time is up, lay the paper chains out to measure how long it is.
Extend the Activity:
You could repeat the challenge but compete with other members of your household to see who can make the longest.
Don’t forget to send your pictures and measurements to deputy@charlesdarwin.cheshire.sch.uk
