Diwali - a celebration remembering Rama and Sita

Hindus celebrate the story of Rama Sita during a holiday called Diwali

The word Diwali means 'rows of lighted lamps'. It is a fun and exciting time where families get together and give presents.

Diwali is known as the 'festival of lights' because houses, shops and public places are decorated with small oil lamps called 'diyas'.

When is Diwali?

Diwali always falls some time between October and November, but the exact date varies each year as the Hindu calendar is based on the Moon.

In 2020, Diwali is on Saturday 14 November.  Some of you will remember the story of Rama and Sita from your RE work in Year 3.
