St Swithin's Day
St. Swithin's Day is on the 15th July, a day on which people watch the weather. Tradition says that whatever the weather is like on St. Swithin's Day, it will continue so for the next forty days.
There is a weather-rhyme that was well known throughout the British Isles since the Elizabethan era.
"St Swithin's day, if thou dost rain
For Forty days it will remain.
St Swithin's day, if thou are fair
For forty days 'twill rain no more."
The rhyme means that if it rains on this day it will rain for 40 more days but if the weather is good then it should be good for the next 40 days!
Let us all hope it is a sunny day on the 15th July! It's nearly the Summer Holiday!
